School and Educational Acoustics
Research has shown that acoustic conditions within schools can have a profound impact on pupils' learning and staff performance.
1st July 2003 brought sweeping changes to the design and construction of schools. Initially introduced as a guidance document Building Bulletin 93 (Part E4 of Building Regulations 2000, 2003 Edition BB93) subsequently became mandatory and now directly replaces Part A of the DfES (now DCSF) Building Bulletin 87.
The implications are far reaching. Compliance with these Regulations is now part of the approved process through which all new school construction works must be completed.
The requirements of BB93 are far more stringent than its predecessor BB87, in particular, to assist in the integration into mainstream schools of pupils with special educational needs and to improve the overall design standard and quality of educational buildings.
BB93 is available for reference and can be downloaded below. However, the issues are complex and Dragonfly Acoustics can offer detailed, specific advice on how to implement the requirements of these Regulations or simply help you decipher what is required.
