Residential Noise

Dragonfly Acoustics has extensive experience in dealing with residential planning applications for sites ranging in size from one dwelling to more than one hundred dwellings.

At Dragonfly Acoustics we routinely undertake noise measurements to establish the suitability of sites for residential development. A detailed noise assessment will be completed taking account of the guidance contained in Planning Policy Guidance Note 24 (PPG24) and the guidance issued by the local Planning Authority.

Often a planning authority will require a developer to demonstrate that the noise levels within a proposed development will meet identified acceptable noise levels.

Our acoustic consultants can assess the internal noise levels within the building taking account of the sound insulation provided by the proposed building envelope. We can advise on the most suitable glazing and ventilation schemes for a development to both minimise costs and achieve a high quality internal environment within the development.

Typically the glazing and ventilation are assessed against the design criteria as detailed in BS8233:1999. We are also able to advise clients and assist in the design of the best specification for them.

We can also provide guidance on internal acoustic design within a building to comply with the requirements of Approved Document E of the Building Regulations 2003.
