The Singing Road!

The practical application of this bit of fun is that it demonstrates the noise that can be generated by road surfaces if they are damaged or poorly constructed. The best example of this in the UK is sections of motorway and dual carriageway built in concrete sections such as on the A19 near Billingham. The increased noise level from vehicles driving over these sections of road can be very significant and the only difference is the road surface.
